The City of Rockwood Public Library Board of Trustees seeks an energetic library director to manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Rockwood Public Library. The director must be capable of creating a vision for the library and possess the skills necessary to bring that vision into reality. He/She must be detail oriented, have clear communication skills, be comfortable with technology, have a working knowledge of librar management systems, possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office and be willing to learn and teach staff and patrons.

Job responsibilities require excellent organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills, thorough experience supervising and directing the activities of staff, considerable experience preparing and monitoring budgets, ability to prepare competitive grants and strong computer skills. Job activities are also subject to annual audits.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Clear communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Willingness to learn and teach
• Must be able to lift and carry 35lbs
• Must be able to work 40 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications:
• Four-year College Degree or equivalent
• Four years supervisor experience
• Minimum two years of experience in a library environment and have a working knowledge of
the library management systems

Responsibilities:
• Maintain positive and productive working relationships with the library board, county and city
leaders, schools, agencies, civic and community groups, the general public, and news media
• Maintaining accounts receivable and payable in correspondence with the City of Rockwood
• Oversee daily operations, equipment and maintenance of the library
• Perform administrative tasks including supervising employees and volunteers
• Notify Board members of meetings and prepare appropriate public notices in compliance with
Tennessee Sunshine Laws
• Prepare monthly reports and generally apprise the Board of significant activities, events,
problems, or concerns of the library
• Purchase office supplies
• Seek grant funding opportunities for library programming and technology needs
• Promote the services and programs of the library to the public
• Recruitment and interviewing of candidates for positions and subsequent performance
management
• Responsible for employee hiring, firing, and promotions- also completing required quarterly and
yearly performance evaluation
• Effectively address patron complaints and public criticism of the library
• Management of library facilities
• Responsible for collection development according to policies established by the library board
• Comply with state guidelines regarding continuing education
