Senator Yager secures $4 million in state budget for Rockwood Airport Modernization

(NASHVILLE, TN) – Rockwood Airport is on track to receive a major infrastructure upgrade thanks to Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston), who successfully secured $4 million in state funding to support a $5 million terminal improvement project. The remaining $1 million is being provided by the City of Rockwood.

The funding will allow the airport to replace its outdated terminal with modern facilities, positioning it to better serve business-class general aviation aircraft and strengthen the region’s economic development efforts.

Senator Yager formally requested the funds in a letter to Governor Bill Lee earlier this month, followed by a meeting to advocate for the project. As a result of these efforts, the $4 million was included in the governor’s amended budget proposal, released Tuesday, March 25.

“I’m grateful to Governor Lee for recognizing the importance of this investment,” said Yager. “Rockwood Airport is strategically located near Interstate 40 and Oak Ridge, making it a critical hub for regional business travel and economic growth. With the addition of Flatrock Motorsports’ world-class racing facility and its increased use of the airport, this project is timely and transformative for the area.”

Rockwood Airport serves not only Roane County but also communities across East Tennessee, playing a key role in enhancing connectivity and driving long-term regional growth.

“Many thanks to Senator Yager for championing this important initiative,” said Rockwood Mayor Jason Jolly. “This funding is a game-changer for Rockwood. A new terminal will improve service,

attract investment, and support our community for years to come. We’re excited to partner with state leaders and airport officials to bring this project to life.”

The governor’s amended budget will now move through the legislative process and is expected to be approved by the General Assembly in mid to late April.
